Your pen drops. Eight leaves arrange themselves on the pavement. A golden monad appears to you floating like a speck of dust above a kitchen sink. As you return to consciousness, your ears buzz with the cool static of pure information.

The herald speaks clearly and enunciates like the poets of the breakers and the sea.

Three years ago, reports began to surface concerning an international conspiracy of metaphorical savants whose exploits were recorded in a not easily available ink-jet mouth-piece, THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE ART MOVEMENT. Two issues followed in quick succession before an interdimensional counter-conspiracy began to generate inverted probability waves of such amplitude as to completely mutilate THE ART MOVEMENT'S possible worlds. Our intrepid explorers naturally took refuge in the impossible worlds, easily accessible by means of THE ART MOVEMENT's standard issue paralethic generators. So ensconced, our boys and girls picked up a few tricks, notably the ability to harness sustainable, environmentally friendly acausal logical constraints, the details are complicated, but the point is, by means of a potent cocktail of sweat and ingenuity, THE ART MOVEMENT proceeded to install thirteen hypostatic respirators in Hilbert space, which, by breathing in tandem with all things, eased up conditions back on earth. The battle with evil won, THE ART MOVEMENT turned to the question of its futures. In order to maximize the future density of the Good in the river of Time, and restore the proper balance of Nature and Artifice in the present moment, it was thought that its membership relation ought to be considerably more promiscuous.

With this in mind, the following call was formulated...

In 1624, Francis Bacon published his New Atlantis envisioning a new science and new house of study whose end would be "the knowledge of causes, and secret motions of things; and the enlarging of the bounds of human empires to the effecting of all things possible."

In 1725, Giambattista Vico published his New Science, regrounding the study of history in the examination of a recurring cycle of metaphor to metonymy to irony in the ages of man.

In 2002, Stephen Wolfram published A New Kind of Science, making the case that all of reality can be reduced down to simple systems of computation, most easily visualized with chessboards.

And in the last decade alone, a google search reveals scattered references to...
